Gamma Oscillations Index Sustained Attention in a Brief Vigilance Task

چکیده
Sustained attention is an essential behavior in life, but often leads to performance decrements with time. Computational accounts of sustained suggest this due brief disruptions goal-directed processing, or microlapses. Decreases gamma spectral power are a potential candidate for indexing microlapses and discriminating between low high performers tasks, while increases beta, alpha, theta expected exhibit compensatory effort offset fatigue. The current study tests these hypotheses 10-minute Psychomotor Vigilance Test, context that eliminates confounds measuring frequencies. 34 participants ( Mage = 22.60; SDage 4.08) volunteered the study. Results suggested frontal declined time-on-task, indicating reduction central cognition. Beta increased suggesting effort; however, alpha did not increase. Additionally, discriminated performers, potentially motivational differences groups.

Kinesthesia in a sustained-attention driving task
This study investigated the effects of kinesthetic stimuli on brain activities during a sustained-attention task in an immersive driving simulator. Tonic and phasic brain responses on multiple timescales were analyzed using time-frequency analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) sources identified by independent component analysis (ICA). Sorting EEG spectra with respect to reaction times (RT) ...
متن کاملIncreased distractor vulnerability but preserved vigilance in patients with schizophrenia: evidence from a translational Sustained Attention Task.
OBJECTIVE Attentional deficits represent a core cognitive impairment in schizophrenia. The distractor condition Sustained Attention Task (dSAT) has been identified by the Cognitive Neuroscience Treatment to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (CNTRICS) initiative as a promising translational task for assessing schizophrenia-related deficits in attentional selection-control, identifying neuroimag...
متن کاملImpaired sustained attention, focused attention, and vigilance in youths with autistic disorder and Asperger's disorder
The study compared the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) related clinical symptoms and a wide-ranging attention performance in 216 youths with autistic disorder (autism), 138 youths with Asperger’s disorder (AD) and 255 typically-developing youths. The diagnosis of autism and AD were made based on the clinical assessments according to the DSM-IV criteria and confirmed by the Autis...
متن کاملAssessing the effects of caffeine and theanine on the maintenance of vigilance during a sustained attention task.
Caffeine and L-theanine, both naturally occurring in tea, affect the ability to make rapid phasic deployments of attention to locations in space as reflected in behavioural performance and alpha-band oscillatory brain activity (8-14 Hz). However, surprisingly little is known about how these compounds affect an aspect of attention that has been more popularly associated with tea, namely vigilant...
متن کاملThe roles of cortical oscillations in sustained attention.
We rely on sustained attention to protect task performance against fatigue and distraction. Time-related variations in attention correlate with amplitude changes of specific cortical oscillations. However, the ways in which these oscillations might support sustained attention, how these oscillations are controlled, and the extent to which they influence one another remain unclear. We address th...
